Easy Peasy Pizzas – Recipe for 5-Ingredient Pizza Crust

This is a great way to let kids have a lot of fun in the kitchen, all the while learning some valuable cooking skills and maybe trying some new veggies.  We don’t always make homemade pizza dough, but when we do, it looks something like this:

 Plus, this recipe only has 5 ingredients in it.  Let the kids play with this dough, roll out or smash out, and maybe even use cookie cutters to create fun shaped pizzas!

For the Crust
  1. 1 3/4 cup spelt flour or white-whole wheat
  2. 1 envelope yeast
  3. 1/2 tsp salt
  4. 2/3 cup warm water
  5. 2 tbsp olive oil (I have left this out several times, and the crust still comes out fine.)
  6. additional flour for kneading
For the Toppings
  1. 1 cup pizza sauce
  2. 1-2 cups mozzarella cheese
  3. other toppings spinach, tomatoes, bell peppers, basil, mushrooms, olives, etc.
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Combine undissolved yeast and very warm water into bowl. Leave it alone for a little bit.
  3. Then, add the oil and salt and stir.
  4. Add 1 ½ cup of flour and mix until well blended, about 1 minute.
  5. You can do this in a food processor or mixer but we did it by hand. Gradually add enough remaining flour to make soft dough.
  6. Dough should form a ball and will be slightly sticky.
  7. Knead on a floured surface, adding additional flour if necessary, until smooth and elastic, about 4 minutes. Pat dough with floured hands to fill pizza pan or baking sheet. (can use parchment paper.)
  8. Form a rim by pinching the edge of the dough. Spread with pizza sauce.
  9. Top with desired toppings and sprinkle with cheese.
  10. Bake on lowest oven rack for 10-12 minutes for large pizza and about 8 minutes for mini-pizzas, until cheese is bubbly and crust is browned.
